The vision of lobbyists shapes policies. And policies shape the world. Climate change will impact all citizens of the world. And it is with all citizens of the world that we are going to overcome this. 

Therefore, we believe it’s logical, important and enriching to have diverse visions, experiences, origins and backgrounds to help shape these policies.  

#SustainablePublicAffairs embraces the importance of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – both in our organisation as in our broader approach to public affairs work. We encourage our staff and partners to engage into positive interactions, regardless of origins and background. 

But how do we achieve diversity?  

It is difficult to answer, but we believe it starts with a mindset. We are one team. We are all equally fortunate to live and co-habit on this small blue marble lost in space. I mean: what are the odds, really! We share so much more than what divides us.  

Such an open mind is helped by awareness of backgrounds that have been historically disadvantaged (whether by virtue of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, ideology, religion, or other characteristics reflecting significant social categories or fractures).  

We apply a Diversity and Inclusion vision to all our activities, for colleagues, clients and stakeholders. 

1. We ensure that the pool of applicants to our position is diverse and that every employee has the same chances and opportunities for growth and development.
2. We stand up for our colleagues and allies in case we spot inappropriate behaviour and prioritise their protection over the achievement of our objectives.
3. We only engage on projects where the environmental objectives do not directly conflict with social and Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) objectives.
4. We actively work in increasing diversity in the European affairs space via partnerships, volunteering and external activities.  

At the end of the day, it is simple: A diverse mix of voices leads to better discussions, decisions, and outcomes. And we need all that to combat climate change.
