The implications of the United States Inflation Reduction Act for the EU to remain a global leader for attracting green hydrogen-based investments
The United States Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) contains a $369 billion Energy Security and Climate Change package of subsidies and tax credits to incentivize consumers and producers to buy, invest and build green technologies in the US, consequently impacting the EU as a key place to invest.
There are still companies planning to invest in green technologies within the EU, such as First Ammonia, who is developing the first modular, commercial-scale plants to produce green ammonia using breakthrough solid oxide electrolyser cells (SOEC), which are 30% more efficient than conventional electrolysers. First Ammonia recently signed the world’s largest electrolyser launch company agreement with Topsoe worth 5 GW, and alongside its activities in the US is planning to build its two large-scale (several hundred MWs) ammonia plants in Germany.
As the US IRA enters into force soon, Mr Joel Moser (CEO of First Ammonia) and Mr Hunter Johnston (Partner at Steptoe) will discuss some of the key elements and the implications of the IRA on the EU economy, and assess potential actions the EU can take to stay a key location for green hydrogen-based investments.
The discussion will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience.
